PRESCHOOL CLASSES

There are two options available at Diverse Dance Company for children 3-5 years of age: 8-week sessionals, and full-year classes. Unlike many other studios in Grande Prairie, both options at Diverse Dance Company follow the Cecchetti syllabus for ballet, one of the two internationally recognized ballet programs for professional dancers. All preschool classes are overseen by Tenille Millsap, a well-known actress/director in Grande Prairie theatre; she is also a registered dietician at Eastlink Centre. Tenille holds two bachelor degrees from the University of Alberta, one in Education and one in Nutrition and Food Sciences.

8-week sessional are offered in half-hour lessons on Saturday mornings for 3-5 year olds. The first sessional begins in September, with the second beginning in January. Children are welcome to participate in both sessions. Both sessions offer the choice of ballet or jazz, or you can sign your child up for an hour of dance in both sessions. Children participating in the sessionals will perform a short choreographed dance for their parents at the end of the session, but will not be a part of the year-end recital. Students in sessionals also do not receive professional pictures and will not wear formal costumes. Please contact the studio for more information and to register.

Pre-kinder Classes are offered for 3-4 year olds. These half-hour classes run for the duration of our 32-week year. Students in these classes will have professional pictures taken, will wear costumes on stage, and will perform a longer choreographed dance at our year-end recital at GPRC. Baby classes offer your child the opportunity to take lessons in ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop, and parents may place their child in any or all disciplines. Please contact the studio for more information and to register.

CENTRAL CLASSES

The central classes are designed for dancers age 6-18 who want to dance just for the enjoyment of it. Typically, these dancers only dance a few hours a week to stay fit and have fun. These dance classes qualify for the income tax deductions offered by the government. Dancers in the central classes often don’t want to focus on ballet, yet they still want to work hard and dance on stage. Each class will perform at two local competitions and at recital. Central classes are also great for anyone new to dance who wants to see what they are capable of achieving. Each class will have professional photographs taken, and will have a costume to keep at the end of the year. Central classes offer your child the opportunity to participate in the following dance disciplines: jazz, lyrical, hip hop, tap, ballet, musical theatre, and acro. Students may take as many classes as they wish. Most classes are held on weeknight evenings after 4 pm with some being offered Saturday mornings. Please contact the studio for more information and to register.

PRE-COMPETITIVE CLASSES

The pre-competitive classes are for dancers age 6-11 who want to pursue dance seriously. These dancers are typically taking between four and six hours of dance per week. Each dancer in this program must take at least one class of ballet per week in addition to the other disciplines they wish to pursue. Dancers in the competitive program will perform at two local competitions as well as at the year-end recital. Dance disciplines offered for the pre-competitive dancers include: ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, tap, musical theatre, and acro. While there is no formal audition process required to take pre-competitive classes, registration is at the sole discretion of the teachers and artistic director. Please contact the studio for more information and to register.

COMPETITIVE CLASSES

The competitive classes are for dancers who take dance seriously. These dancers are typically dancing for six to ten hours per week. This program is for dancers who have completed Level 3 in the pre-competitive program at Diverse Dance Company (or can show equivalent competence if transferring from another studio). Each dancer in this program must be taking at least two classes of ballet per week in addition to the other disciplines they wish to pursue. Dancers wanting to take jazz must also take a jazz technique class to supplement their jazz choreography class. Dancers in the competitive program will perform at two local competitions and at least one away competition. They will also perform at recital. Dance disciplines offered for the competitive dancers include: ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, musical theatre, tap, contemporary, pointe, and acro. While there is no formal audition process required to take competitive classes, registration is at the sole discretion of the teachers and artistic director. Please contact the studio for more information and to register.

CORPS CLASSES

Corps classes are mandatory for dancers who have been accepted into Diverse Dance Corps, an elite group of highly competitive dancers who must audition to become a member. Corps classes are only open to these dancers. Please contact the studio for more information and to register.

ADULT

Adult classes are available for dancers (and non-dancers) age 19 to 19-at-heart. Adult classes are a great way to learn new dance moves and disciplines, meet new friends, and give your cardiovascular system a work out. Doctors recommend adults get at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day, and we can think of no better way to do this than through dance. Classes can be taken Monday-Thursday evenings in ballet, lyrical, hip hop, and tap. No experience necessary! Participation at competitions and recital is determined by the class on a class-by-class basis. Please contact the studio for more information and to register.
